OliType for Mac

The full app, every feature, free for 30 days. No account, no card. Setup takes a few minutes, most of it a one-time download of the speech model.

What you need

  • A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or newer)
  • macOS 15 Sequoia or later
  • About 1 GB of free space (more if you add AI cleanup)

AI cleanup, the optional add-on, also needs 16 GB of memory or more. OliType works fully without it.

Not sure what your Mac has? Click the Apple menu at the top-left of your screen, then About This Mac. "Chip" should say Apple M1 or newer (M2, M3, M4, and so on), and "macOS" should say Sequoia 15 or later. "Memory" is the number AI cleanup cares about; it's not the same as storage space.

Installing

  1. Open the OliType disk image (.dmg) you downloaded.
  2. Drag the OliType icon onto the Applications folder.
  3. Eject the disk image (the eject icon next to it in Finder's sidebar).
  4. Open OliType from Applications, or press ⌘ Space, type OliType, and press Return.

The first time you open it

  1. Allow two permissions. Microphone, so OliType can hear you, and Accessibility, so your hotkey works in every app and OliType can type for you.
  2. Pick your microphone. Or keep System default.
  3. Let the speech model download. About 490 MB, once, from Hugging Face, a widely used public library of AI models. After that, dictation works with Wi-Fi off.
  4. Try it. The last screen has a practice box. Double-tap Left Option, say hello, double-tap again.

Stuck anywhere? The setup section of the guide walks through each step.

Good to know

  • After 30 days, dictation pauses until you buy OliType ($19 for 1 Mac, $29 for up to 3). History, Vocabulary, and Settings keep working, and nothing is lost. See Pricing.
  • Bought it? Paste the key from your receipt email into Settings > License.
  • OliType tells you when an update is out (you can turn that off in Settings), and every update is free.
  • To uninstall, see Uninstalling in the guide.
  • OliType runs NVIDIA Parakeet and, if you add it, Qwen 3, all on your Mac. See the credits.
