Privacy

We can't see what you say. That's the point.

OliType runs entirely on your Mac. There's no account and no cloud, and what you say is never ours to collect.

The app

OliType turns your voice into text on your own Mac, using speech models stored on your Mac. Your recordings and your words are never uploaded, and Bishop Technology Solutions, LLC never receives them.

  • No accounts, no telemetry, no analytics, no ads, no cloud AI.
  • Network use: only to download the models you choose, once (the speech model during setup, and AI cleanup if you add it), from Hugging Face, a widely used public library of AI models; to activate or remove your license key when you click (see below); and, if Check for updates is on, to ask olitype.com which version is newest. Like any connection, those services see your internet address. Dictation itself works with Wi-Fi off.
  • Updates: when OliType opens, and once a day, it asks olitype.com for one small file listing the newest version (the request names only OliType and its version). It carries nothing about you or your words. Turn it off in Settings > Check for updates.
  • Recordings: deleted right after they become text. A failed one is kept until you try again or delete it, so you don't lose your words. A cancelled one is kept for one day so you can restore it, then deleted.
  • History: the text of your dictations stays on your Mac for as long as you choose in Settings: forever, 30, 7, or 1 day, or not at all.
  • Vocabulary and settings: stored on your Mac until you remove them. If you export your settings, the file holds your settings and vocabulary only, never recordings or dictated text.

Your history, vocabulary, recordings, and models live in ~/Library/Application Support/com.btsaz.olitype/. Your trial date and license are kept separately, in your Mac's keychain (its built-in password storage). Uninstalling in the guide shows how to remove everything.

Buying OliType and your license

OliType is sold through Polar, a payment company that is the merchant of record: it sells OliType to you and handles payment, receipts, and sales tax, so your card statement shows Polar, not OliType. When you buy, Polar receives your name, email, and payment details under Polar's privacy policy. We see your name, email, and what you bought, so we can help you with your license. We never see your card number.

When you click Activate in Settings > License, OliType contacts Polar once and sends only your key and the name you give that Mac (like "Office iMac"), never your computer's own name. After that, OliType never goes online for your license. Your trial start date and license are kept in your Mac's keychain.

Permissions

OliType asks macOS for two permissions. Microphone, so it can hear you, and only between start and stop. Accessibility, so your hotkey works while you're in other apps and OliType can type your words for you. You can turn either off any time in System Settings > Privacy & Security.

This website

olitype.com has no cookies, no analytics, no trackers, and no third-party scripts or fonts. If you switch between light and dark mode, your browser remembers that choice on your own device. Like any website, the server that hosts it keeps basic request logs (such as IP address, the page requested, and the time) to keep the site running and secure. We don't use them to track you, and we don't sell or share them.
