Private and on-device: your voice never leaves your Mac
Wispr Flow's own data controls page says, "Transcription always occurs on the cloud." It gives you settings for whether Wispr stores your transcripts, audio, and dictation history on its servers (Dictation Cloud Storage), and for whether your data is used to improve its models. Those settings decide what happens to your voice after it reaches Wispr's servers; none of them keeps it on your Mac.
OliType never sends your voice anywhere. Speech becomes text on your Mac with NVIDIA Parakeet, a speech model that runs on Apple silicon, and there's no cloud option at all, so there's no setting to get wrong. There's nothing on a server to store, share, or train on.
- Works with Wi-Fi off once the one-time model download during setup is done: on a plane, on a train, or on a network that blocks cloud services.
- No account, no telemetry, no cloud AI. OliType goes online only to download a model, for your license key, and to check for updates unless you turn that off.
- Private on screen, too. The listening indicator, the floating button, and OliType's messages are left out of macOS screenshots and screen recordings.
